In 2009 the society merged with The Co-operative Banking Group.
In January 2013, the Co-operative announced that the Britannia name would be phased out by the end of 2013, and they would began rebranding branches under its own name.
Unfortunately the Co-operative Bank’s own financial crisis bought about by the merger with the Britannia resulted in the plans being abandoned. Instead many of the Britannia branches were closed, and only a small number were retained and rebranded.
In the 1970’s two shops were at this location. On the left was Baxters, a butcher and on the right-hand side was Victoria Wines. The dividing line was the centre column under the middle window.
