In 1995, the Cheltenham and Gloucester Building Society accepted a purchase offer from Lloyds Bank. For the deal to go ahead though, the Society had to demutualise. Its members voted overwhelmingly in favour of the change. The resulting takeover marked the first ever association between a bank and former building society. Later that year, Lloyds also merged with TSB to form Lloyds TSB.
In 2013 followed a European Commission ruling, Lloyds TSB once again became two separate banks. The Lichfield branch of Cheltenham and Gloucester, now part of Lloyds since 1995, was closed and reopened as a branch of the TSB bank.
